Surah 50 Qaf (THE LETTER QAF)

Verse:001
Dr. Mohsin : Qâf. [These letters (Qâf, etc.) are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Glorious Qur'ân.
Pickthal : Qaf. By the glorious Qur'an,
Yusuf Ali : Qaf. By the Glorious Qur'an (Thou art Allah's Messenger).


Verse:002
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, they wonder that there has come to them a warner (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves. So the disbelievers say: "This is a strange thing!
Pickthal : Nay, but they marvel that a warner of their own hath come unto them; and the disbelievers say: This is a strange thing:
Yusuf Ali : But they wonder that there has come to them a Warner from among themselves. So the Unbelievers say: "This is a wonderful thing!


Verse:003
Dr. Mohsin : "When we are dead and have become dust (shall we be resurrected?) That is a far return."
Pickthal : When we are dead and have become dust (shall we be brought back again)? That would be a far return!
Yusuf Ali : "What! when we die and become dust, (shall we live again?). That is a (sort of) Return far (from our understanding)."


Verse:004
Dr. Mohsin : We know that which the earth takes of them (their dead bodies), and with Us is a Book preserved (i.e. the Book of Decrees).
Pickthal : We know that which the earth taketh of them, and with Us is a recording Book.
Yusuf Ali : We already know how much of them the earth takes away: with Us is a Record guarding (the full account).


Verse:005
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, but they have denied the truth (this Qur'ân) when it has come to them, so they are in a confused state (can not differentiate between right and wrong).
Pickthal : Nay, but they have denied the truth when it came unto them, therefor they are now in troubled case.
Yusuf Ali : But they deny the truth when it comes to them: So they are in a confused state.


Verse:006
Dr. Mohsin : Have they not looked at the heaven above them, how We have made it and adorned it, and there are no rifts in it?
Pickthal : Have they not then observed the sky above them, how We have constructed it and beautified it, and how there are no rifts therein?
Yusuf Ali : Do they not look at the sky above them?? How We have made it and adorned, it and there are no flaws in it?


Verse:007
Dr. Mohsin : And the earth! We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and have produced therein every kind of lovely growth (plants).
Pickthal : And the earth have We spread out, and have flung firm hills therein, and have caused of every lovely kind to grow thereon,
Yusuf Ali : And the earth--We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and produced therein every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs)?


Verse:008
Dr. Mohsin : An insight and a Reminder for every slave who turns to Allâh in repentance (i.e. the one who believes in the Oneness of Allâh and performs deeds of His obedience, and always begs His pardon).
Pickthal : A vision and a reminder for every penitent slave.
Yusuf Ali : To be observed and commemorated by every devotee turning (to Allah).


Verse:009
Dr. Mohsin : And We send down blessed water (rain) from the sky, then We produce therewith gardens and grain (every kind of harvests) that are reaped.
Pickthal : And We send down from the sky blessed water whereby We give growth unto gardens and the grain of crops,
Yusuf Ali : And We send down from the sky Rain charged with blessing, and We produce therewith Gardens and Grain for harvests;


Verse:010
Dr. Mohsin : And tall date-palms, with ranged clusters;
Pickthal : And lofty date-palms with ranged clusters,
Yusuf Ali : And tall (and stately) palm-trees, with shoots of fruit-stalks piled one over another?


Verse:011
Dr. Mohsin : A provision for (Allâh's) slaves. And We give life therewith to a dead land. Thus will be the resurrection (of the dead).
Pickthal : Provision (made) for men; and therewith We quicken a dead land. Even so will be the resurrection of the dead.
Yusuf Ali : As sustenance for (Allah's) Servants;? and We give (new) life therewith to land that is dead: Thus will be the Resurrection.


Verse:012
Dr. Mohsin : Denied before them (i.e. these pagans of Makkah) the people of Nûh (Noah), and the dwellers of Rass, and the Thamûd,
Pickthal : The folk of Noah denied (the truth) before them, and (so did) the dwellers at Ar-Rass and (the tribe of) Thamud,
Yusuf Ali : Before them was denied (the Hereafter) by the people of Noah, the Companions of the Rass, the Thamud


Verse:013
Dr. Mohsin : And 'Ad, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and the brethren of Lut (Lot),
Pickthal : And (the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh, and the brethren of Lot,
Yusuf Ali : The `Ad, Pharaoh the Brethren of Lut,


Verse:014
Dr. Mohsin : And the Dwellers of the Wood, and the people of Tubba'; Everyone of them denied (their) Messengers, so My Threat took effect.
Pickthal : And the dwellers in the wood, and the folk of Tubb'a: every one denied their messengers, therefor My threat took effect.
Yusuf Ali : The companions of the Wood, and the people of Tubba; each one (of them) rejected the messengers, and My warning was duly fulfilled (in them).


Verse:015
Dr. Mohsin : Were We then tired with the first creation? Nay, they are in confused doubt about a new creation (i.e. Resurrection)?
Pickthal : Were We then worn out by the first creation? Yet they are in doubt about a new creation.
Yusuf Ali : Were We then weary with the first Creation, that they should be in confused doubt about a new Creation?


Verse:016
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge).
Pickthal : We verily created man and We know what his soul whispereth to him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.
Yusuf Ali : It was We who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.


Verse:017
Dr. Mohsin : (Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions)[]
Pickthal : When the two Receivers receive (him), seated on the right hand and on the left,
Yusuf Ali : Behold two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and note them), one sitting on the right and one on the left.


Verse:018
Dr. Mohsin : Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).[]
Pickthal : He uttereth no word but there is with him an observer ready.
Yusuf Ali : Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it).


Verse:019
Dr. Mohsin : And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"
Pickthal : And the agony of death cometh in truth. (And it is said unto him): This is that which thou wast wont to shun.
Yusuf Ali : And the stupor of death will bring truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!"


Verse:020
Dr. Mohsin : And the Trumpet will be blown — that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given) (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).
Pickthal : And the trumpet is blown. This is the threatened Day.
Yusuf Ali : And the Trumpet shall be blown: that will be the Day whereof warning (had been given).


Verse:021
Dr. Mohsin : And every person will come forth along with an (angel) to drive (him), and an (angel) to bear witness.
Pickthal : And every soul cometh, along with it a driver and a witness.
Yusuf Ali : And there will come forth every soul: with each will be an (angel) to drive, and an (angel) to bear witness.


Verse:022
Dr. Mohsin : (It will be said to the sinners): "Indeed you were heedless of this, now We have removed your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!"
Pickthal : (And unto the evil-doer it is said): Thou wast in heedlessness of this. Now We have removed from thee thy covering, and piercing is thy sight this day.
Yusuf Ali : (It will be said:) "Thou wast heedless of this; now have We removed thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this Day!"


Verse:023
Dr. Mohsin : And his companion (angel) will say: "Here is (this Record) ready with me!"
Pickthal : And (unto the evil-doer) his comrade saith: This is that which I have ready (as testimony).
Yusuf Ali : And his companion will say: "Here is (his Record) ready with me!"


Verse:024
Dr. Mohsin : (Allah will say to the angels): "Both of you throw into Hell, every stubborn disbeliever (in the Oneness of Allâh, in His Messengers) —
Pickthal : (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate,
Yusuf Ali : (The sentence will be:) "Throw throw, into Hell every contumacious Rejector (of Allah)!?


Verse:025
Dr. Mohsin : "Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,
Pickthal : Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,
Yusuf Ali : "Who forbade what was good, transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions;


Verse:026
Dr. Mohsin : "Who set up another ilâh (god) with Allâh, Then both of you cast him in the severe torment."
Pickthal : Who setteth up another god along with Allah. Do ye twain hurl him to the dreadful doom.
Yusuf Ali : "Who set up another god besides Allah: throw him into a severe Penalty."


Verse:027
Dr. Mohsin : His companion (Satan — devil)] will say: "Our Lord! I did not push him to transgression, (in disbelief, oppression, and evil deeds) but he was himself in error far astray."
Pickthal : His comrade saith: Our Lord! I did not cause him to rebel, but he was (himself) far gone in error.
Yusuf Ali : His companion will say: "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) far astray."


Verse:028
Dr. Mohsin : Allâh will say: "Dispute not in front of Me, I had already, in advance, sent you the threat.
Pickthal : He saith: Contend not in My presence, when I had already proffered unto you the warning.
Yusuf Ali : He will say: "Dispute not with each other in My Presence: I had already in advance sent you Warning.


Verse:029
Dr. Mohsin : The Sentence that comes from Me cannot be changed, and I am not unjust to the slaves."
Pickthal : The sentence that cometh from Me cannot be changed, and I am in no wise a tyrant unto the slaves.
Yusuf Ali : "The Word changes not with Me and I do not the least injustice to My Servants."


Verse:030
Dr. Mohsin : On the Day when We will say to Hell: "Are you filled?" It will say: "Are there any more (to come)?"[]
Pickthal : On the day when We say unto hell: Art thou filled? and it saith: Can there be more to come?
Yusuf Ali : One Day We will ask Hell "art thou filled to the full?" It will say "Are there any more (to come)?"


Verse:031
Dr. Mohsin : And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2) not far off.
Pickthal : And the Garden is brought nigh for those who kept from evil, no longer distant.
Yusuf Ali : And the Garden will be brought nigh to the righteous no more a thing distant.


Verse:032
Dr. Mohsin : (It will be said): "This is what you were promised, - (it is) for those oft-returning (to Allâh) in sincere repentance, and those who preserve their covenant with Allâh (by obeying Him in all what He has ordered, and worshipping none but Allâh Alone, i.e. follow Allâh's religion, Islâmic Monotheism).
Pickthal : (And it is said): This is that which ye were promised. (It is) for every penitent and heedful one,
Yusuf Ali : (A voice will say:) "This is what was promised for you for everyone who turned (to Allah) in sincere repentance who kept (his law).


Verse:033
Dr. Mohsin : "Who feared the Most Gracious (Allâh) in the Ghaib (unseen) and brought a heart turned in repentance (to Him - and absolutely free from each and every kind of polytheism).
Pickthal : Who feareth the Beneficent in secret and cometh with a contrite heart.
Yusuf Ali : "Who feared (Allah) Most Gracious unseen, and brought a heart turned in devotion (to Him):


Verse:034
Dr. Mohsin : "Enter you therein in peace and security — this is a Day of eternal life!"
Pickthal : Enter it in peace. This is the day of immortality.
Yusuf Ali : "Enter ye therein in Peace and Security; this is a Day of Eternal Life!"


Verse:035
Dr. Mohsin : There they will have all that they desire — and We have more (for them, i.e. a glance at the All-Mighty, All-Majestic swt )
Pickthal : There they have all that they desire, and there is more with Us.
Yusuf Ali : There will be for them therein all that they wish and more besides in Our Presence.


Verse:036
Dr. Mohsin : And how many a generation We have destroyed before them, who were stronger in power than they, and (when Our Torment came) they ran for a refuge in the land! Could they find any place of refuge (for them to save themselves from destruction)?
Pickthal : And how many a generation We destroyed before them, who were mightier than these in prowess so that they overran the lands! Had they any place of refuge (when the judgment came)?
Yusuf Ali : But how many generations before them did We destroy (for their Sins), stronger in power than they? Then did they wander through the land: Was there any place of escape (for them)?


Verse:037
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, therein is indeed a reminder for him who has a heart or gives ear while he is heedful.
Pickthal : Lo! therein verily is a reminder for him who hath a heart, or giveth ear with full intelligence.
Yusuf Ali : Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or who gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth).


Verse:038
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six Days and nothing of fatigue touched Us.
Pickthal : And verily We created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in six Days, and naught of weariness touched Us.
Yusuf Ali : We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.


Verse:039
Dr. Mohsin : So bear with patience (O Muhammad SAW) all that they say, and glorify the Praises of your Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting (i.e. the Fajr, Zuhr, and 'Asr prayers)[].
Pickthal : Therefor (O Muhammad) bear with what they say, and hymn the praise of thy Lord before the rising and before the setting of the sun;
Yusuf Ali : Bear, then, with, patience all that they say and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting


Verse:040
Dr. Mohsin : And during a part of the night (also), glorify His praises (i.e. Maghrib and 'Isha prayers), and (so likewise) after the prayers [As-Sunnah, Nawâfil — optional and additional prayers, And also glorify, praise and magnify Allâh - Subhân Allâh, Alhamdu lillâh, Allâhu-Akbar].
Pickthal : And in the night-time hymn His praise, and after the (prescribed) prostrations.
Yusuf Ali : And during part of the night, (also), celebrate His praises, and (so likewise) after the postures of adoration.


Verse:041
Dr. Mohsin : And listen on the Day when the caller will call from a near place,
Pickthal : And listen on the day when the crier crieth from a near place,
Yusuf Ali : And listen for the Day when the Caller will call out from a place quite near?


Verse:042
Dr. Mohsin : The Day when they will hear As-Saihah (shout) in truth, that will be the Day of coming out (from the graves i.e. the Day of Resurrection).
Pickthal : The day when they will hear the (Awful) Cry in truth. That is the day of coming forth (from the graves).
Yusuf Ali : The day when they will hear a (mighty) Blast in (very) truth: that will be the Day of Resurrection.


Verse:043
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We it is Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final return,
Pickthal : Lo! We it is Who quicken and give death, and unto Us is the journeying.
Yusuf Ali : Verily it is We Who give Life and Death; and to Us is the Final Goal--


Verse:044
Dr. Mohsin : On the Day when the earth shall be cleft, from off them, (they will come out) hastening forth. That will be a gathering, quite easy for Us.
Pickthal : On the day when the earth splitteth asunder from them, hastening forth (they come). That is a gathering easy for Us (to make).
Yusuf Ali : The Day when the Earth will be rent asunder, from (men) hurrying out: that will be a gathering together? quite easy for Us.


Verse:045
Dr. Mohsin : We know of best what they say; and you (O Muhammad SAW) are not the one to force them (to Belief). But warn by the Qur'ân, him who fears My Threat.
Pickthal : We are best aware of what they say, and thou (O Muhammad) art in no wise a compeller over them. But warn by the Qur'an him who feareth My threat.
Yusuf Ali : We know best what they say; and thou art not one to overawe them by force. So admonish with the Qur'an such as fear My Warning!
