Surah 92 Al-Lail (THE NIGHT)

Verse:001
Dr. Mohsin : By the night as it envelops;
Pickthal : By the night enshrouding
Yusuf Ali : By the Night as it conceals (the light);


Verse:002
Dr. Mohsin : By the day as it appears in brightness;
Pickthal : And the day resplendent
Yusuf Ali : By the Day as it appears in glory;


Verse:003
Dr. Mohsin : By Him Who created male and female;
Pickthal : And Him Who hath created male and female,
Yusuf Ali : By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female?


Verse:004
Dr. Mohsin : Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes);
Pickthal : Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends).
Yusuf Ali : Verily (the ends) ye strive for are diverse.


Verse:005
Dr. Mohsin : As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allâh and fears Him,
Pickthal : As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah)
Yusuf Ali : So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah),


Verse:006
Dr. Mohsin : And believes in Al-Husna.[]
Pickthal : And believeth in goodness;
Yusuf Ali : And (in all sincerity) testifies to the Best?


Verse:007
Dr. Mohsin : We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness).
Pickthal : Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease.
Yusuf Ali : We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss.


Verse:008
Dr. Mohsin : But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient.[]
Pickthal : But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent,
Yusuf Ali : But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient.


Verse:009
Dr. Mohsin : And gives belies Al-Husna (See the footnote of the Verse No: 6);
Pickthal : And disbelieveth in goodness;
Yusuf Ali : And gives the lie to the Best?


Verse:010
Dr. Mohsin : We will make smooth for him the path for evil;
Pickthal : Surely We will ease his way unto adversity.
Yusuf Ali : We will indeed make smooth for him the Path to Misery;


Verse:011
Dr. Mohsin : And what will his wealth avail him when he goes down (in destruction).
Pickthal : His riches will not save him when he perisheth.
Yusuf Ali : Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit).


Verse:012
Dr. Mohsin : Truly! on Us is (to give) guidance,
Pickthal : Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance
Yusuf Ali : Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide.


Verse:013
Dr. Mohsin : And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world).
Pickthal : And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former.
Yusuf Ali : And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning.


Verse:014
Dr. Mohsin : Therefore I have warned you of a blazing (Hell);
Pickthal : Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire
Yusuf Ali : Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely;


Verse:015
Dr. Mohsin : None shall enter it save the most wretched,
Pickthal : Which only the most wretched must endure,
Yusuf Ali : None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones


Verse:016
Dr. Mohsin : Who denies and turns away.
Pickthal : He who denieth and turneth away.
Yusuf Ali : Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs.


Verse:017
Dr. Mohsin : And Al-Muttaqûn (the pious and righteous - see V.2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell).
Pickthal : Far removed from it will be the righteous
Yusuf Ali : But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it?


Verse:018
Dr. Mohsin : He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification,
Pickthal : Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness).
Yusuf Ali : Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification,


Verse:019
Dr. Mohsin : And who has (in mind) no favour from anyone,
Pickthal : And none hath with him any favour for reward,
Yusuf Ali : And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return,


Verse:020
Dr. Mohsin : Except to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High;
Pickthal : Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High.
Yusuf Ali : But only the desire to seek for the countenance of their Lord Most High.


Verse:021
Dr. Mohsin : He surely, will be pleased (when he will enters Paradise).
Pickthal : He verily will be content.
Yusuf Ali : And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction.
