Surah 85 Al-Burooj (THE MANSIONS OF THE STARS, CONSTELLATIONS)

Verse:001
Dr. Mohsin : By the heaven, holding the big stars[]
Pickthal : By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,
Yusuf Ali : By the Sky (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs;


Verse:002
Dr. Mohsin : And by the Promised Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection);
Pickthal : And by the Promised Day.
Yusuf Ali : By the promised Day (of Judgment);


Verse:003
Dr. Mohsin : And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafât (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hîjjah];
Pickthal : And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,
Yusuf Ali : By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness?


Verse:004
Dr. Mohsin : Cursed were the people of the Ditch (in the story of the Boy and the King).[]
Pickthal : (Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch
Yusuf Ali : Woe to the makers of the pit (of Fire),


Verse:005
Dr. Mohsin : Of fire fed with fuel,
Pickthal : Of the fuel-fed fire,
Yusuf Ali : Fire supplied (abundantly) with Fuel:


Verse:006
Dr. Mohsin : When they sat by it (fire),
Pickthal : When they sat by it,
Yusuf Ali : Behold! they sat over against the (fire),


Verse:007
Dr. Mohsin : And they witnessed what they were doing against the believers (i.e. burning them).
Pickthal : And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
Yusuf Ali : And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers.


Verse:008
Dr. Mohsin : And they had no fault except that they believed in Allâh, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!
Pickthal : They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,
Yusuf Ali : And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, worthy of all Praise!?


Verse:009
Dr. Mohsin : To Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allâh is Witness over everything.
Pickthal : Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
Yusuf Ali : Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! and Allah is Witness to all things.


Verse:010
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, those who put into trial the believing men and believing women (by torturing them and burning them), and then do not turn in repentance, (to Allâh), then they will have the torment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the burning Fire.
Pickthal : Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.
Yusuf Ali : Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: they will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.


Verse:011
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success.
Pickthal : Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.
Yusuf Ali : For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens Beneath which Rivers flow: that is the great Salvation (the fulfilment of all desires).


Verse:012
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, (O Muhammad (SAW)) the Seizure (Punishment) of your Lord is severe and painful. (See V.11:102)
Pickthal : Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.
Yusuf Ali : Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord.


Verse:013
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, He it is Who begins (punishment) and repeats (punishment in the Hereafter) (or originates the creation of everything, and then repeats it on the Day of Resurrection).
Pickthal : Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,
Yusuf Ali : It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life).


Verse:014
Dr. Mohsin : And He is Oft-Forgiving, full of love (towards the pious who are real true believers of Islâmic Monotheism),
Pickthal : And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
Yusuf Ali : And He is the Oft-Forgiving Full, of loving-kindness


Verse:015
Dr. Mohsin : Owner of the throne, the Glorious.
Pickthal : Lord of the Throne of Glory,
Yusuf Ali : Lord of the Throne of Glory,


Verse:016
Dr. Mohsin : (He is the) Doer of whatsoever He intends (or wills).
Pickthal : Doer of what He will.
Yusuf Ali : Doer (without let) of all that He intends.


Verse:017
Dr. Mohsin : Has the story reached you of the hosts,
Pickthal : Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts
Yusuf Ali : Has the story reached thee, of the Forces?


Verse:018
Dr. Mohsin : Of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Thamûd?
Pickthal : Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?
Yusuf Ali : Of Pharaoh and the Thamud?


Verse:019
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! The disbelievers (persisted) in denying (Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Message of Islâmic Monotheism).
Pickthal : Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial
Yusuf Ali : And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)!


Verse:020
Dr. Mohsin : And Allâh encompasses them from behind! (i.e. all their deeds are within His Knowledge, and He will requite them for their deeds).
Pickthal : And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.
Yusuf Ali : But Allah doth encompass them from behind!


Verse:021
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! This is a Glorious Qur'ân,
Pickthal : Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.
Yusuf Ali : Nay this is a Glorious Qur'an,


Verse:022
Dr. Mohsin : (Inscribed) in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz (The Preserved Tablet)!
Pickthal : On a guarded tablet.
Yusuf Ali : (Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved!
